Cameron Christensen, CEFP, FMP is Associate Vice President of Facilities Management at The Juilliard School in New York City and the author of a new book called “Building T.E.A.M.S.: A Guide to Capital Needs Analysis”. Mike Petrusky asks Cam about the future of higher education facilities in the age of acceleration where the impact of technology will require FMs to adapt to their changing responsibilities while also balance the need to maintain existing infrastructure. With his involvement at the professional association, APPA, Cam shares research on a facility’s role in attracting students and creating a place where they can succeed. Mike asks Cam to tell the story of how he picked up the mantle of his father’s work and finished the book he began about recapitalization planning and total cost of ownership modeling while also addressing the value of data and other elements that impact the built environment. In the end, Mike and Cam agree that facilities management is people management and they celebrate with another Maynard Ferguson edition of “trumpet karaoke”!
